We are delighted to get back on the Tideway. We appreciate all the hard work everyone has put in behind the scenes to make this possible. I know BRCL have been working very hard. Thanks must also go to the PLA for their help and to the sponsors who make it all possible.
It would be foolish to imagine Covid has gone away. It is always a concern. We’ve remained cautious and kept sensible protocols in place to give ourselves the best chance of getting to the start line unscathed. As ever academic pressures are high so time keeping and scheduling is a challenge but one we have done our best to overcome. The athletes have done well and are closing in on the rhythm and rowing we envisioned at the start of the campaign. They have not been afraid to keep working towards it even in the final weeks.
This crew are in a hurry. They live busy lives and demand efficiency in everything they do. Fortunately, efficiency works well in our sport. They know what they want and they back themselves. It is good to see.
I’ve enjoyed working with them. They are a highly motivated group of people and working together has been both challenging and rewarding. This is a good group of athletes and there is a sense of optimism and purpose about them.
Cambridge have got tremendous athletes and they are on a winning run. We are keen to win this one. We know it is going to be a big challenge from a tough opponent. We are not taking anything for granted. No stone has been left unturned.
