By comparison to last year this group are far less experienced, and in many cases quite novice. We have worked hard to develop their rowing as much as we can, in the time available. They have been absolutely super to work with.
The team have proven themselves to be good, hardworking athletes, and great fun. They have pulled together and, over the course of the season, become very close. They are good friends as well as being teammates.
The final week is an opportunity to recover from the hard training program. We want to allow the fatigue to leave, and the fitness to emerge. Peaking at the right time is important. On race day we want the crew to be as fresh and as prepared as possible.
We are sharpening the rowing details to facilitate our top speed and economy of movement. It helps to condense things that we have focused on during the campaign into their most simple form. This close to the race fitness gains are limited, but you can still improve the rowing. It is important to keep getting better until you line up at the start.
We would love to win this one. We are doing everything we can to make that happen.
