The significance of this year for Oxford cannot be overstated. Emerging from challenging years marked by losses, the winds of change began to blow as a new era dawned. A crucial factor was the arrival of acclaimed Chief Coach Allan French, supported by Assistant Coach James Powell. Their impact steers us towards success, resilience, and a united purpose. Additionally, merging all men’s and women’s squads into one OUBC, particularly combining lightweight and openweight teams, has fostered intense competition and camaraderie, benefiting everyone involved.

The team has been incredible – 40 inspiring women (and Joe) embodying hard work, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to perfection. Despite the challenges, with substantial flooding in the Thames Valley, the team has remained steadfast, a testament to the character and spirit that defines the Dark Blues. Though facing a strong Cambridge women’s programme led by Jenna and Paddy, our team holds a palpable belief and confidence, anticipating a shift in the tide this year.

Win or lose, I see an incredible group that has grown individually and as a team, forming lasting friendships. To the team, coaches, sponsors, and support staff: thank you for your unwavering dedication to our project. I also acknowledge the countless female athletes who precede us, before the 2024 merger. Thank you and all advocates for paving the way for women’s sports at Oxford and beyond. We wouldn’t be here without you.

Serving as President this year has been an honour. As Boat Race day approaches, we stand united, aiming for a clean sweep – a testament to our strength forged through adversity and shared dreams of victory.
